This course is spread on 5 days of 6 hours each. Here you’ll be able to learn all about marquetry: both theory and practice will be covered together, discovering the history of this trade, testing different methods and materials. You’ll learn the differences between different kinds of wood and how all the tools work. As a starter you’ll be given the book Tarsi that contains all the notes I’ve taken during my 40 years of activity and you’ll be able to take whatever you made during the course home! A tour inside the discovery of screen-silk printing, a technique that allows you to experiment with colors and make a reproducible work of art while maintaining its uniqueness. The hands-on workshop takes place in the historic silkscreen laboratory of Cannaregio, in a unique and authentic Venice where art and tradition come together and come to life in the ancient crafts of the artisan workshops. Immersed in an archive consisting of more than a thousand works of art printed from 1968 to present, you will learn the secrets of the silkscreen and you will experience the printing of a one-color graphic on a support you choose among cardboard, t-shirt or canvas bag, which you'll take home as a souvenir of a creative and unusual adventure.

PRINTER FOR A DAY

Ready for a full immersion day in the world of printmaking? You'll be welcomed in the printing lab, a beautiful shop located right in the middle of Vicenza, more precisely in an old palace. You'll have the chance to visit the lab, the showrooms and the archive, full of testimonials left from countless artists dating all the way back to 900. Next, you'll be introduced to the three main printing techniques: chalcography (dry tip), litography and xilography. With the help of Giancarlo you'll follow all the main steps of the printing process: from wetting the paper to the final authentication of the completed print. Lunch will be the perfect opportunity to have a nice walk around the Palladium city and to taste the typical baccalà fish together. At the end of the day every participant will be given a copy for every printing technique used.

YOUR CUSTOM-MADE HAT

The workshop includes a short presentation of the work of the milliner and hatmaker, in which the different spaces of the atelier are shown, and the different activities that are carried out there. Then we move on to the making phase, which is organized as follows: 1 hour of preparing the hat shape (possible materials: sisal,straw or felt) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.; lunch break circa 2 hours, and then from 2 to 5 p.m. we will work to finish and decorate the hat made previously. This particular type of craftsmanship involves fixing the hat shape in a kind of oven. This procedure requires a break time between the first stage of work and the next one, during which the work will be refined and finished.

Through this hands-on workshop anyone will be a printer... at least for one day! After visiting the shop and the archive, you will be ready to slip the apron as a true craftsmen. You will use an array of plexiglass, whereyou can practice the art of dry point. You will be guided in the engraving of the plate that you can print by yourself. The skilled hands of Giancarlo will show also other more complex printing techniques. At the end of you you can take home the matrix realized during the class, and two copies of your work (color and black/white).

The courses will be held in my workshop where you’ll be able to get to know the tools of my trade by completing a small marquetry project or learn how to approach the restoration process of an antique piece of wooden furniture. I’ll welcome you to my shop and we’ll have Vin Santo, fruit juice and cantuccini while I’ll tell you about the materials and tools of my work. Then I’ll follow you through the making and finishing of a small project that you’ll get to take home along with a mounting box that will allow you to put your project together once home using the techniques learned during the course. The price is intended for a family group of 3 or 4 people. If you should need a different option, please ask in the green box "customized experience": it will be a pleasure for me to find out the right solution for you. FROM WOOL TO FELT

During the experience, the artisan will explain the various stages of wool processing, starting with the production of sheep's wool by small local farmers in Valsugana. In particular, the processing of carded wool and the subsequent transformation into felt will be proposed. The artisan will explain the path of raw wool from washing to carding using a special tool. After a short break with an organic snack you will go on with the design and construction of a personalized felt hat or alternatively a felt seat / seat cover, suitable for all seasons and all uses. You can choose your favorite hat model and add decorations with various colors wools, that can also be used for the seat cover.

Visit is split in two parts: first of all I will show you the watermill near my lab, where there is also a rural culture museum. Then we will move to the lutherie lab, where I use to make and repair Manouche and acoustic guitars, besides all the others plucked strings instruments. I will explain you the way I work, displaying all the steps of my guitar making.
